How Often Should You Get a Facial? An Esthetician's Guide to Healthy, Glowing skin
Updated: Aug 10
One of the questions we hear most often is, “How often should I get a facial?”
The answer isn’t the same for everyone.
Your skin is unique, and the right facial schedule depends on your skin concerns, your goals, your home-care routine, and where you are in your skin journey. While an occasional facial can feel wonderful, consistent treatments allow us to work toward meaningful, long-term changes in the health and appearance of your skin.
At Norma Louise Skin Care, we believe beautiful skin is about more than a single treatment. It’s about understanding your skin, creating a plan, and giving it the consistent care it needs.
For Acne: Every 2 Weeks
When we’re actively working to improve acne, we generally recommend a facial every two weeks.
Acne-prone skin often needs more frequent attention, especially in the beginning. Regular treatments allow us to monitor changes in your skin, address congestion and breakouts, and adjust your treatment plan as your skin responds.
We also look at what you’re doing at home, because professional treatments and a consistent home-care routine work best together.
As your skin improves, we can reevaluate how frequently you need to come in.
For Pigmentation: Every 3 Weeks
If your goal is to address pigmentation, uneven skin tone, or dark spots, we typically recommend treatments every three weeks.
Pigmentation takes patience and consistency. Rather than trying to make dramatic changes all at once, we want to work with the skin through a thoughtful series of treatments while supporting it with the appropriate products and daily sun protection at home.
Your treatment plan may change along the way depending on how your skin responds, the type of pigmentation we’re addressing, and the time of year.
For Skin Maintenance: Every 4–6 Weeks
If you’re happy with your skin and your goal is to maintain its health, hydration, and glow, a facial every four to six weeks is a wonderful rhythm.
Think of these appointments as regular maintenance for your skin.
They give us an opportunity to deeply care for your skin, address changes before they become bigger concerns, and make adjustments as your skin changes with the seasons, lifestyle, hormones, stress, and age.
And, just as importantly, your facial is time to slow down.
Life moves quickly. Your treatment room can be a place to disconnect for a little while, relax your facial muscles, breathe, and allow someone else to take care of you.
Consistency Makes the Difference
Great skin rarely comes from one facial or one product.
It comes from consistency.
Your professional treatments, the products you use at home, daily sun protection, and the small choices you make between appointments all contribute to your results.
That’s why we don’t believe every client should be placed on exactly the same schedule. We look at your skin and your goals and create a treatment plan around what you actually need.
As a general guide:
Acne: Every 2 weeksPigmentation: Every 3 weeksMaintenance & healthy skin: Every 4–6 weeks
Your schedule may be adjusted as your skin progresses.
